Nowadays, it seems that the one
thing on everyone's mind when they're in the market for a new vehicle is
fuel-economy. Whether the reason is financially or environmentally motivated,
it seems that eco-friendly models and trims for popular models are all the
rage. And, though it used to be that fuel-efficiency was limited to compacts
and hatchbacks, it now seems that even the SUV and pickup truck segments are getting
in on the action. So, what about sports and supercars? Well, we at
Lamborghini of Dallas can't answer for every automaker, but
we do know for a fact, that Lamborghini is making strides toward low emissions,
and it's starting with the Lamborghini Aventador.
How you might ask?
Well, for starters, for its 2013 year the 6.5-liter, V12 Aventador model will include a Cylinder Deactivation System (CDS), which will allow the supercar to run on just six of its 12 cylinders. In addition, the engine will feature a stop/start system which will channel a capacitor which is seven pounds lighter than a traditional battery, and can charge up more quickly starting the engine in a measly 180-miliseconds. To put this in perspective, a typical stop/start system for other brands takes about 250-miliseconds.
So how do these new features impact efficiency? Reports indicate that the combination of the CDS and stop/start system will result in a 20-percent increase in fuel economy.
Additional updates for the 2013 Lamborghini Aventador include: new instrument panel with enlarged speedometer and tachometer numbers and optional added carbon fiber bits, including for the engine cover.
