While some automakers like to
expand their lineup with as many variants of their popular models as possible,
Lamborghini is taking a different approach.
Specifically, we're talking about the 2014 model year and the Italian automaker's plans to offer fewer variations of its flagship Lamborghini Gallardo. Now for those of you with busy lives, who haven't spent time counting each and every version/special edition of the Gallardo, Lamborghini offers, or has offered, in the past, Lamborghini Dallas is here to tell you there have been quite a few.
For instance, there has been the Bicolores, the Tricolores, the wordy Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale, the Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante and a myriad of regular rear-wheel drive coupes and convertibles.
But, it's all about to change. According to Lamborghini America COO, Michael Lock, the intention is to streamline the 2014 Gallardo range; motivated by both financial acumen and a hope to narrow down the selection process for valued customers.
For those worried that the selection will be too narrow, never fear: Lamborghini will still offer buyers the choice between rear- and all-wheel-drive for their 542-hp, mid-engine supercar.
One option that will not be available however, is manual-transmission; but, this should come as no surprise considering Lamborghini CEO, Stephan Winkelmann announced a year ago that the brand's stick-shifting days were behind it. Instead, the forthcoming Gallardo gens are slated to receive a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
