In case the memo did not happen to reach your desk in the past few months, our friends at Lamborghini are going to phase out the popular Gallardo. The question on everybody's minds has been: what will replace it? For weeks we have been scouring the internet, chasing down leads and reading any Lamborghini related news story we could get our hands on. Finally Lamborghini officials sent out an announcement that hinted at what we might be able to expect for a Gallardo replacement.

As of right now, the word on the street is that the gap in the production line of new Lamborghini models will be filled with a car that is currently being called the Cabrera. We are expecting to see a concept vehicle debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, and that should give us a good idea of the look and feel of the production version.

The official announcement from Lamborghini also stated that the new Cabrera will be built on the second-generation Audi R8 platform. This should make the new supercar lighter and more agile than if it was built using the Aventador platform. The Audi underpinnings will include features like aluminum and carbon fiber construction and a modular spaceframe.

We should also expect the new Lamborghini to be powered by a new version of the 5.2-liter V10 engine which will undoubtedly be able to deliver at least 600 horsepower.

You can be sure to get all of the latest updates on the new Lamborghini Cabrera right here on our blog.
