Every month it seems like there is a news story cropping up about a company that restored an antique supercar to its original condition. There are always stories of someone discovering a Lamborghini from the 60s in an old barn and making it like new. This month, we are here with a similar story but with a slightly more nautical spin.
It appears that the founder of our favorite Italian carmaker, Ferruccio Lamborghini was a bit of a boat enthusiast. Much like his dry land ambitions, typical performance would not be enough if he was to own his own boat. That is why he built a special Riva Aquarama.
This was a very special speedboat built with the traditional wooden body, but instead of the typical inboard engines, Ferruccio opted for dual Lamborghini V12 powerplants. Each engine inside his sea monster was a 4.0-liter V12 capable of generating 350 horsepower. The boat was built in 1968 and was considered to be the pinnacle of watercraft design at the time.
Ferruccio Lamborghini passed away in 1993. Since then, his special Riva Aquarama had been wrapped up and tucked away in the corner of a boat yard in Italy. After it had been rediscovered, Lamborghini officials made it a special project to get the best marine restoration specialists to bring the ol' tub back to its original glory. The old engines were removed and replaced with new V12s that now incorporate special water-cooled technology.
The Riva Aquarama Lamborghini is quite a sight to see, but don't expect to find speedboats entering our showroom here at Lamborghini Dallas any time soon.
